'It is time for perky Preity to mature'

Bollywood actress Preity Zinta is convinced she will leave behind her perky, girl-next-door image with Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna a movie about troubled marriages set to release next week.

Zinta has played a variety of roles in eight years in Hindi cinema, but has never been able to shake her chatty, outgoing young woman persona

She told that it was a challenge to play a reserved, mature woman in Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.

Zinta had to rein in her ‘wild gesticulations’ to play the part of Rhea, an ambitious New York fashion editor.

"She is very reserved, she won't talk openly about her feelings. But she is not icy cold," said Zinta. "It is just that she won't show when her pride is hurt."

She said director Karan Johar made it clear it was not a "girlish role, but an older part."

"Rhea is also a very contained person, she is not expressive and that was somewhat difficult for me," said Zinta. "I speak with so many wild gesticulations, you know. I had to work on that aspect."
